Michael Karl McNeil

Michael Karl McNeil

Former Fire Battalion Chief. Industrial hygienist. Working in occupational health and safety since 1989.

What follows is my own account of my career, set down in one place and in plain terms, so that anyone checking my name can read the record straight through instead of piecing it together from fragments.

My first career ran twenty-five years in the fire service, federal and state, most of it in fire prevention, and it closed with my advancement to Fire Battalion Chief. From there I moved into industrial hygiene and environmental health and safety, earned a master’s degree in environmental health while working, and have practised in that field ever since — hazardous materials, exposure monitoring, emergency planning, and the regulatory work that keeps people safe on the job.

I am registered as a Registered Environmental Professional, a Registered Industrial Hygiene Professional and an Emergency Planning Professional, and I keep an emergency medical certification current. The registration numbers, the dates they were conferred and the course records behind them are printed on the credentials page rather than merely described.
